How powder coating is recovered in powder spraying booths

Powder coating is a common surface coating method that provides a uniform coverage for different types of materials. However, a certain amount of waste is generated during the spraying and use of powder coatings. These unused coatings can be recycled through a recycling system in the powder spray booth to reduce costs and waste.

I. Powder Coating Chamber Recycling System

The powder booth recycling system is an important part of powder coating. This system consists of a device called a recycler that is used to recover unused powder coating. The recycler, usually located at the bottom of the powder booth, is a sealed dust collector that captures powder scattered during the spraying process. It is connected to the spray chamber via a dust collection duct, allowing waste material to flow easily into the dust collector.

In the collector, the paint passes through different filter layers to separate the clean powder from the waste.

First, the powder coating passes through a screen to remove larger solid particles and impurities.

Next, the coating passes through an electronic filter to remove smaller particles and electrostatically charged particles. In this step, the electronic filter uses the electrostatic principle to attract the powder to the charged plate, while the waste is collected through a collector.

Finally, the powder coating passes through a HEPA filter to capture any remaining fine particles.The HEPA filter is a high efficiency air filter that captures particles smaller than 0.3 microns in size. Since fine particles and dust are produced in the powder coating chamber, the HEPA filter plays a key role in the recovery system.

The final step in the recovery system is to add the recovered material back into the spraying system. For this purpose, the recycler is usually equipped with a device called a recirculation system. The recirculation system sends the recovered material back into the coating chamber so that it can be used again. This process significantly reduces powder coating waste and costs while increasing the efficiency of the coating application.

The powder chamber recycling system is an important part of the powder coating process. It recovers unused material and adds it back into the coating system, thus reducing costs and waste. During the recycling process, the material passes through filter layers such as screens, electronic filters and HEPA filters to separate the clean powder from the waste. The HEPA filter is critical in this process as it captures fine particles less than 0.3 microns in size, thus ensuring that the recovered coating is clean and ready for reuse.

II. Improving powder booth recovery efficiency

In addition to using a recovery system and controlling the spraying parameters, there are a number of ways to further improve the recovery efficiency of the recovery system, such as

  1. Regular cleaning of the recovery system: The filters and nozzles in the recovery system will become dirtier over time, affecting the recovery efficiency. Therefore, filters and nozzles need to be cleaned and replaced on a regular basis to ensure they are functioning properly and working efficiently.
  2. Selecting the right powder coating: Different types of powder coatings have different physical and chemical properties and have different effects on the recovery system. Therefore, when selecting powder coatings, their recovery properties should be considered and those that are easy to recover should be selected.
  3. Use low-pressure coating technology: Low-pressure coating technology can reduce the flow rate of the coating during the coating process, thus reducing spattering and waste of the coating and improving recovery efficiency.
  4. Conduct regular recycling system performance tests: Regularly testing the performance of the recycling system can identify problems in the recycling system and fix them in time to ensure that the recycling system works efficiently.
  5. Increase the capacity of the recovery system: If the capacity of the recovery system is too small, it may not be able to handle a large amount of paint powder, thus affecting the recovery efficiency. Therefore, consider increasing the capacity of the recovery system to cope with large amounts of coating powder.
