How a Power & Free Conveyor Improves a Busbar Powder Coating Line?
For busbar production, coating quality and stable material flow both matter. In this UAE project, we designed a powder coating line with a Power & Free conveyor system to give the customer more control over each busbar during pretreatment, powder coating, curing, and unloading.
Unlike a standard continuous conveyor, a Power & Free system allows individual carriers to stop, accumulate, and move again when the next process is ready. This makes it a good fit for coating lines where different process stages may need different cycle times.

Why Use Power & Free Conveyor in Busbar Powder Coating Line?
Busbars can vary in length, shape, and coating requirements. A fixed-speed conveyor moves every workpiece at the same pace, which can make production less flexible.
The Power & Free system uses two tracks. The power track drives the chain, while the free track carries the workpiece trolleys. The trolleys can disengage from the drive chain at selected points. As a result, one group of busbars can wait while other parts continue through the line.
This principle gives the UAE project three practical advantages:
- Flexible part spacing: Operators can adjust the distance between busbars before spraying or curing.
- Accumulation: Workpieces can wait in a buffer zone without stopping the whole line.
- Independent movement: Different sections of the line can follow different production rhythms.
The Powder Coating Institute describes Power & Free conveyors as two-track systems that allow products to move at different speeds and follow different routes. This flexibility makes them useful for complex coating applications.

A Better Fit for Busbar Coating
For busbars, the coating does more than provide surface protection. The coating can also provide electrical insulation. AkzoNobel’s technical information for coated busbars highlights the importance of dielectric strength, edge coverage, heat resistance, and protection against environmental exposure.
That means the coating process needs stable and repeatable conditions.
The conveyor plays an important role here. It keeps each busbar in the correct position through the pretreatment, spraying, curing, and cooling stages. It also gives the system more flexibility when production requirements change.
For example, if the curing process needs more dwell time, the conveyor can accumulate workpieces before they enter the oven. The spray section does not need to stop simply because the downstream process needs additional time.

Designing the UAE Project Around the Production Flow
For this UAE busbar project, we focused on the complete production flow instead of treating the conveyor as a separate piece of equipment.
The Power & Free system connects the main process sections and provides controlled movement between them. Its accumulation function also gives the line a buffer when different stages do not run at exactly the same pace.
This approach is especially useful when a customer needs a flexible production system rather than a simple straight-through conveyor.

A Flexible Powder Coating Line for Future Production
A good conveyor system should do more than move products from A to B. It should support the entire coating process.
For this UAE project, the Power & Free design gives the powder coating line greater flexibility in part spacing, accumulation, and process control. It also creates more room for future production adjustments.
